Call Your Congressional Representatives and tell them to Vote “No” on Cap & Trade Legislation June 24, 2009

 By Julie Murphree

ISSUE: H.R. 2454

IMPACT: The House of Representatives has scheduled debate and a vote this Friday on H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act.  This is the carbon cap and trade legislation being driven by Al Gore’s global warming hysteria.

For my Arizona Readers: Because Arizona has several coal-burning electrical generating plants, one estimate is that the cost for electricity alone would increase by nearly $2,000 per-year-per household.

Oppose H.R. 2454 because:

* The bill creates an ‘energy deficit’ for the United States by curtailing and reducing our use of fossil fuels without supplying any realistic alternative to make up the lost energy.

* The bill does nothing to require other countries, such as China and India, to undertake similar programs.  If global warming is truly global, then all nations must work toward a solution.

* The Costs to you as an individual energy user will add huge costs to your energy bills. Future costs are hard to pin down. Remember Obama said he would not tax anyone earning less than $250,000 annually? This is a tax. Even Warren Buffet calles it a regressive and huge tax!!!

ACTION: Contact your congressional delegation, especially your democratic delegations. For Arizonans, contact Arizona’s Democratic delegation (phone numbers and emails below) to the U.S. House of Representatives as they will receive tremendous pressure from the Obama administration and the Democratic Party to vote for this bill. Regardless of whether you live in their district or not, they need to hear from you. Please call or email all five.

It took me no longer than 30 minutes to place a call to each office. In many instances I simply left a message stating my opposition to the bill.
